How to keep what you buy fresh, private and out of the wrong hands for the time you are in the city.

Buy what you will use

The simplest way to store cannabis safely is to buy only what you will use during your stay. Anything left over cannot travel home with you, since carrying cannabis across a border is illegal. Plan your purchases around your days rather than buying in bulk.

Keep it fresh

  • Use an airtight container, such as a small glass jar or the shop's sealed bag.
  • Keep it away from heat and direct sunlight, for example not on a windowsill or in a hot bag.
  • Avoid damp places like a bathroom.
  • Do not squash it in a pocket.

Keep it private

  • Keep it in your own luggage or a lockable place in your room.
  • Do not leave it visible in a shared or rented space.
  • Do not carry it around more than you need to.

Keep it safe from others

Cannabis, and edibles in particular, can look like ordinary sweets or snacks. Keep them well away from children, pets and anyone who does not know what they are. Label anything you store and put it out of reach.

Hotels and rentals

  • Check the smoking policy before you use anything indoors.
  • Do not leave cannabis in hotel waste bins for staff to find.
  • Dispose of leftovers responsibly before you leave.

When you leave

Finish what you have, give it to another adult who is staying, or dispose of it. Never take it to the airport or over a border. See the rules for visitors.

Edibles

Keep them in their original packaging, stored as instructed, and use them within the date given. Read space cake safety.
