What the phrase means
"Smoker-friendly" is used loosely. It can mean anything from a designated terrace to a relaxed attitude from staff. It rarely means you can smoke indoors. Read what the property actually says, and ask if it is not clear.
Questions to ask
- Is smoking allowed anywhere on the premises, and where?
- Does the policy cover cannabis as well as tobacco?
- Is there a fee if a room smells of smoke?
- Is there a balcony, terrace or garden?
Hotels and hostels
- Hotels. Usually strict indoors, but some have terraces, lounges or courtyards.
- Hostels. Often have a roof terrace or courtyard, and a social atmosphere. Rules still apply.
- Apartments. Rules depend on the host, so read the listing and ask.
