Cali packs are imported, branded cannabis with a premium price. Here is how to tell a genuine product from a fake and what to ask.
What a Cali pack is
A Cali pack is a sealed, branded package of cannabis that has been produced in California and imported. Coffeeshop menus list them at a higher price than local flower because of the brand, the packaging and the reputation.
Why fakes exist
Well-known brands attract counterfeits. Anyone can copy a bag or a label, and the price gap makes it tempting. Some products described as imports may be locally grown flower in imitation packaging.
Signs to watch for
- A price that seems too good. A large discount on a premium brand is a warning sign.
- Poor packaging. Blurry printing, spelling mistakes, loose seals and odd batch codes are red flags.
- A flat smell. Quality flower smells rich. A weak or grassy aroma may mean an inferior product.
- No clear information. Genuine products usually show the strain, batch, weight and producer.
How to reduce the risk
- Buy from a shop with a good reputation and ask them about the source.
- Compare the pack against the brand's own website or social pages.
- Ask to look at the sealed bag before you pay.
- Be cautious about products offered outside a coffeeshop.
Is it worth it?
Many people enjoy premium imports, but excellent flower is also grown in the Netherlands, usually for less. If you are unsure, ask staff for a comparable local strain.
