The Dutch words you may see on a coffeeshop menu, and what each product is.
Why menus use Dutch
Most coffeeshop menus are in English as well, but Dutch terms still appear, especially on boards and older menus. Knowing them makes it easier to read what is on offer.

- Wiet. Cannabis flower. Usually split into types such as sativa, indica and hybrid.

- Voorgedraaid. Pre-rolled. A joint that is made for you.
- Gruis. Crumble or leftover material from hash, usually cheaper.

Menu sections
Flower is normally listed in groups, often by type or by strength, and hash by origin or method. A menu may also show drinks, snacks, cakes and accessories in their own sections.
Other useful Dutch words
- Kopen. Buy.
- Rookruimte. Smoking area.
- Alleen contant. Cash only.
- Legitimatiebewijs. Identity document. Bring one.
Reading a price line
A typical line shows a name, a short description or type, and a price. For example, a flower entry might read as a strain name, the word sativa, indica or hybrid, and a price per gram. Hash entries usually show where the hash comes from or how it was made. If a line ends with a price per piece, it is a single item such as a pre-roll or a cake. Prices are normally in euros and may differ between shops for the same product.

If something is unclear, ask. Staff are used to visitors and will explain the menu. You can also look up a shop on Dam Guide to see its menu and prices before you go. Start with our coffeeshop list.
